The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) reported 42 suspicious betting alerts in the third quarter (Q3) of 2024. This is a significant drop from previous quarters. The alerts cover five sports and 18 countries worldwide.
- Football and tennis were the most affected sports, with 14 alerts each. These two sports made up 67% of all suspicious betting activity in Q3. This trend is consistent with previous years.
- European events saw 14 alerts, accounting for 33% of the total. This figure marks a decrease from the previous quarter, which had 20 alerts in Europe. The drop shows an improvement in integrity monitoring in the region.
- Burundi reported 5 alerts, making up 12% of the total. This is notable because there had been no reports from Burundi since 2020. In 2024, there have been six alerts from the country so far.
- Esports alerts significantly decreased in Q3, with only 12 reported. This is a 75% drop compared to Q2, where 48 alerts were recorded. The high numbers in the first half of the year were tied to a linked case.
- IBIA’s monitoring covers over $300bn in global sports betting turnover each year. Its goal is to protect betting markets from corruption and match-fixing. The association works closely with authorities to maintain the integrity of sports.
