Mexico’s president, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced the appointment of Olivia Salomón as the general director of Lotería Nacional at the end of February 2025. With experience in both the public and private sectors, Salomón has joined the extended cabinet to strengthen the institution. Her background in economic development and social policies supports her designation in this new role which she resumes now officially:
Olivia Salomón Lotería Nacional will lead the institution responsible for lotteries and games for public benefit. Her management will focus on promoting innovation and modernization strategies. She aims to uphold the principles of the so called Fourth Transformation in her administration.
She served as Puebla’s Secretary of Economy from 2019 to 2023, driving economic growth with a shared prosperity vision. During her tenure, she promoted foreign investment and strengthened productive sectors. She also developed inclusion and gender equity programs in the economic field.
Her leadership in public policies has been focused on innovation and business development. She created the Center for Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Business (CIEN) and the State Energy Agency in Puebla. Additionally, she implemented economic recovery strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Her career highlights include promoting female entrepreneurship and STEM education for women and girls. Programs such as “Mujer es Poder” (Women is Power) have been essential in encouraging women’s participation in business. She also supported training young people in business education.
President Sheinbaum has emphasized that “it is the time for women,” and Salomón has worked to strengthen this vision. Her work at Lotería Nacional will focus on inclusion and social welfare. Her goal is to generate more resources for social programs through efficient and transparent management.
