The online gambling market in Spain kept growing in 2024 according to the Spanish General Directorate of Gaming Regulation. Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) went up 17.61% compared to 2023. Player activity and marketing spend also increased significantly.
The total GGR reached €1,454.59 million, up 17.61% year over year. Betting accounted for €608.85 million (41.8%), casino for €730.71 million (50.2%), poker for €100.08 million (6.8%), and bingo for €14.94 million (1.0%). GGR has shown steady growth since 2013.
Betting rose 23.8% year over year. In-play sports betting increased 24.0%, pre-match betting by 23.6%, and other fixed-odds bets grew 33.4%. Horse fixed-odds betting was the only one that dropped, by -16.9%.
The casino segment grew 16.9% compared to the previous year. Slots now represent 64.6% of the casino total and grew 22.8% year over year. Live roulette rose 10.4%, blackjack 3.8%, while conventional roulette dropped -8.4%.
Bingo slightly increased by 3.9% year over year. Although it remains the smallest segment, it shows consistent performance. It represented just over 1% of the total GGR.
Poker generated €100.0 million, making up 6.8% of total GGR. This segment held steady during 2024
Deposits rose 19.6% while withdrawals went up 19.7% year over year. These increases show ongoing user engagement and trust in platforms. The online gambling market continues its upward momentum.
Marketing spend reached €526.3 million in 2024, up 30.3% compared to 2023. Advertising grew 37.1%, promotions 30.8%, affiliates 10.2%, and sponsorships 14.0%. “The sustained growth reflects stronger competition in player acquisition and retention,” said the report.
Active players totaled 1,992,889 in 2024, up 21.7% year over year. This signals a steady rise in user base. Active accounts also surpassed 3.8 million.
