Anthony Leeming is stepping down as CEO of Sun International. He’ll officially retire by the end of 2025 after over two decades at the company. This marks a major Sun International CEO change.
Anthony Leeming will retire from his CEO role at Sun International on 31 December 2025. He joined the company in 1999 and became group CEO in February 2017. His time as CEO included leading the company through COVID-19 and growing its online gaming footprint.
During his leadership, Leeming focused on strengthening the company’s financial position. He led the de-gearing of the balance sheet and streamlined Sun International’s asset portfolio. He also prioritised improving operations and customer experience.
The board has appointed Ulrik Bengtsson as the next CEO, effective from 1 July 2025 or earlier, pending his work permit. Bengtsson is a Swedish national with nearly 20 years of global executive experience. He has led companies in gaming, telecoms, and broadcasting.
Bengtsson was formerly CEO of William Hill, where he led the £2.9 billion sale to Caesars Entertainment. He also oversaw the €2.3 billion sale of William Hill’s European assets to 888 Holdings. Before that, he was CEO of Betsson AB, doubling revenue over five years.
Bengtsson will step down from his current roles at Hostelworld, Raketech, and Gamenation. He holds a commerce degree from Dalhousie University in Canada. He will relocate to South Africa to take on the role at Sun International.
Leeming will stay on until December 2025 to ensure a smooth transition. He’ll work closely with Bengtsson during the handover phase. “It has been an absolute privilege to lead Sun International over the past eight years,” said Leeming.
Ulrik Bengtsson commented: “Sun International is an iconic leisure group with a unique growth opportunity… I’m thrilled to bring my experience and expertise to this fantastic organisation.”
