Three weeks. Nearly 200 domains. And a Danish regulator not pulling any punches. Spillemyndigheden has just completed its ninth major crackdown on illegal gambling sites. Here’s what we know so far, as the list of blocked illegal gambling sites gets longer:

  • A total of 178 websites offering either illegal gambling or unlicensed betting to Danish users were blocked by court order. The action followed a petition from Spillemyndigheden to the Copenhagen City Court on 14 May 2024.

  • Sites were blocked after the operators failed to respond to the regulator’s request to cease offering games in Denmark. These included online casinos and sportsbooks that were either completely unlicensed or didn’t comply with local rules.

  • The list includes high-profile domains like betus.com.pa, rocketplay.com, and csgoempire.tv. The final list stretches across eight full pages, covering hundreds of URLs and duplicates.

  • This marks the ninth such blocking action since the Danish Gambling Authority began its enforcement campaigns in 2012. The regulator said it’s now stepping up monitoring of illegal gambling sites with new digital tools.

  • Spillemyndigheden’s director Anders Dorph said: “We use our authority consistently to protect Danish players and ensure a fair and legal gambling market.”

  • Many of the blocked sites were crypto casinos or brands offering access via mirror sites and domain clones. This tactic has become more common in recent years as regulators tighten enforcement.

  • Sites targeted included casino and sports betting brands, as well as skin betting and gambling using virtual items. Some operators maintained dozens of URLs under the same brand to avoid detection.

  • The regulator emphasized that this was about consumer protection as much as enforcement. It warned Danish users to only play with licensed operators and provided a list of legal alternatives.
