Simon Cox has been appointed as the new independent non-executive Chair of the British Horseracing Authority (BHA). He will take up the role on 1 October 2026 following an open recruitment process for an initial three-year term.

• Cox has been involved in British racing for many years as an owner, breeder and industry representative. He serves on the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association board, chairs the BHA’s Jump Pattern Committee and owns four racehorses in training, while also operating Shade Oak Stud with 10 broodmares. Simon Cox BHA Chair combines this racing background with more than 30 years of international business leadership.
• Before joining the BHA, Cox held senior executive positions at Molson Coors, where he became European president and CEO before taking responsibility for Africa, the Middle East and Asia Pacific. He led a business with around GBP 2 billion (ca. EUR 2.3 billion) in annual turnover and 6,500 employees. “It is an honour to be appointed Chair of the British Horseracing Authority at such an important moment for racing and breeding,” Cox said.
• Cox said his priorities include increasing participation, growing the customer base and strengthening the sport’s income streams. Before taking office, Simon Cox BHA Chair will resign from his current BHA and Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association roles.
