BETBY has released a study comparing football betting behaviour around the 2022 and 2026 World Cups. The BETBY World Cup report covers betting markets, devices and sportsbook features. It presents 10 findings for the current football season.

  • Desktop represented 13.14% of World Cup players but generated 30.24% of turnover. BETBY found a clear difference between player numbers and betting value by device. The report also compares desktop and mobile behaviour.
  • Only 18.84% of World Cup bets came through BETBY’s dedicated tournament page. Most bets were therefore placed elsewhere within the sportsbook. The BETBY World Cup report examines what this means for event discovery.
  • Average stakes increased 2.96 times, while the World Cup reached four out of five BETBY players. However, the tournament accounted for less than half of all bets. Other sportsbook content therefore remained widely used during the event.
  • BETBY.Games activity increased on days without World Cup matches. The report also covers changes in markets, player props, features and promotions. “The tournament reached four out of five of our players, yet generated less than half of all bets,” said BETBY’s Stefanos Karakidis.
