The UK Gambling Commission has named its next chair. Ruth Evans has been appointed Gambling Commission chair for a five-year term. She will start on 30 September 2026.

  • Ruth Evans was appointed by Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy. She will take up the role on 30 September. Her term will run for five years.
  • Evans takes over from interim chair Charles Counsell. He stepped into the position after Marcus Boyle left in January 2025. The Gambling Commission thanked Counsell for his leadership during this period.
  • The appointment gives the regulator a permanent chair again. Evans will serve as Gambling Commission chair for the five-year term announced by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
