The UK Gambling Commission has suspended the operating licence of Spribe OÜ with immediate effect. The Spribe OÜ licence suspension follows what the regulator described as “serious non-compliance” with hosting rules under the Gambling Act 2005. The Commission said Spribe must stop all hosting activity at once until it gets a proper licence in place.
The suspension was issued under Section 118(2) of the Gambling Act 2005, which allows the regulator to pause an operator’s licence while it investigates. The review is looking into whether Spribe remains a suitable licence holder. The Commission said the action was “necessary on grounds of suitability.”
The Spribe OÜ licence suspension covers the company’s software licence — required for hosting gambling products in Britain. According to the Commission, the firm failed to meet its hosting obligations set out in the licensing framework. The company cannot host or supply any gambling content until the issues are resolved.
The regulator also reminded operators that under Section 33 of the Act, it’s a criminal offence to offer gambling in Great Britain without a valid licence. That means Spribe OÜ must immediately stop providing access to any gambling services unless it falls under a specific exemption.
The Gambling Commission said it expects all its licensees to maintain “the highest standards of compliance and integrity.” It added that any unlicensed gambling activity would face strict enforcement. “We take a robust approach to unlicensed activity,” the regulator stated.
Spribe OÜ has been told to inform all affected partners and clients about potential service disruptions. It must also make sure all operations are paused in line with the suspension order. The Gambling Commission said the suspension is already in force and will stay that way until further notice. Spribe has originially been granted a remote operating license since December 2020.
