Africa’s betting industry is growing fast, and with it comes a need for stronger safeguards. The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) and the African iGaming Alliance (AIA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote fair play and protect regulated markets. Their collaboration aims to make sports betting integrity Africa’s benchmark for sustainable growth.
Under the MoU, IBIA becomes AIA’s official integrity partner, while AIA serves as IBIA’s key policy ally for the continent. The partnership focuses on intelligence sharing, joint policy work, and engagement to shield consumers, operators, and sports from betting-related corruption and match-fixing.
AIA CEO Peter Emolemo Kesitilwe said: “Integrity is the foundation of Africa’s betting future.” He added that partnering with IBIA will harmonise standards, encourage responsible play, and strengthen regulators’ ability to tackle illicit practices across African markets.
IBIA CEO Khalid Ali noted that Africa is one of the fastest-growing betting markets globally. Between 2020 and Q3 2025, IBIA recorded 131 suspicious betting alerts on the continent, mostly in football and tennis – insights the partnership will use to guide its integrity work.
