The UK Gambling Commission has released its latest full-year numbers, offering a clear snapshot of how the market moved between April 2024 and March 2025. The update shows continued growth across both digital and retail channels. Overall gross gambling yield (GGY) – defined as total stakes minus player winnings – reached GBP 16.8bn (ca. EUR 19.2bn), up 7.3% year-on-year, with GBP 12.6bn (ca. EUR 14.4bn) coming from non-lottery activities; the number of licensed premises fell 1.1% to 8,234.
Remote GGY climbed to GBP 7.8bn (ca. EUR 8.9bn) after a 13.1% increase driven mainly by GBP 5.0bn (ca. EUR 5.7bn) in online casino and GBP 4.2bn (ca. EUR 4.8bn) of that from slots. The Commission reported that new online account registrations declined by 4.1% to 34m while active accounts ended the year at 24.4m.
Remote betting generated GBP 2.6bn (ca. EUR 3bn) in GGY, including GBP 1.3bn (ca. EUR 1.5bn) from football and GBP 766.7m (ca. EUR 875m) from horse racing; remote bingo added GBP 165.6m (ca. EUR 189m). Customer account balances totalled GBP 1bn (ca. EUR 1.1bn) at period end, down 6.9% on the previous year. One official noted the online shift but cautioned that “behavioural trends continue to evolve across all product types.”
Land-based GGY reached GBP 4.8bn (ca. EUR 5.5bn), a 3.6% rise, with GBP 2.6bn generated by gaming machines across Great Britain, up 2.9% year-on-year. Non-remote betting contributed GBP 2.5bn (ca. EUR 2.9bn) after a small 0.7% uplift, although betting shop numbers fell again to 5,825. Machines accounted for 48.2% of non-remote betting GGY, totalling GBP 1.2bn (ca. EUR 1.4bn) after a 2.2% drop.
Casino venues reported GBP 933.8m (ca. EUR 1bn) in GGY, up 7.9%, including GBP 702.4m (ca. EUR 802m) from table and electronic games and GBP 231.5m (ca. EUR 264m) from machines. Bingo halls produced GBP 650.4m (ca. EUR 743m) in GGY, rising 3.5% with GBP 226.4m (ca. EUR 258m) from bingo games and GBP 424.0m (ca. EUR 484m) from bingo machines. Arcades produced GBP 723.3m (ca. EUR 826m) in GGY, up 9%, led by GBP 682.9m (ca. EUR 780m) from adult gaming centres.
Lottery activity saw National Lottery ticket sales reach GBP 7.9bn (ca. EUR 9bn), returning GBP 4.5bn (ca. EUR 5.1bn) in prizes and GBP 1.6bn (ca. EUR 1.8bn) to good causes after a 4.5% uplift; large society lotteries added GBP 1.1bn (ca. EUR 1.3bn) in sales and GBP 484.6m (ca. EUR 553m) for good causes. Operator numbers declined to 2,179, down 3.7%, with licensed activities falling 2.3% to 3,086. The Commission confirmed new regulatory-return processes were fully aligned this year, enabling consistent reporting for future UK gambling GGY disclosures.
