Portugal’s gambling regulator (SRIJ) has withdrawn Betway’s approval to operate in the country following a request from the company behind the brand. As a result, Portugal online gambling licences linked to Betway are no longer in force.
SRIJ (Serviço de Regulação e Inspeção de Jogo) took the decision at a meeting in the first week of January 2026. Licences no. 021 and no. 022, issued to GM Gaming Limited, were formally revoked. These licences previously allowed the operator to offer online games and betting in Portugal.
The regulator confirmed the revocation was made at the request of the operator itself. No enforcement action or penalty was mentioned in the official notice. The authority did not disclose the reasons behind the request.
GM Gaming Limited operated in Portugal through the website www.betway.pt. With the licences withdrawn, the company is no longer authorised to offer online gambling services in the market. Portugal online gambling licences now exclude the Betway brand entirely (which is owned by Super Group).
