The African iGaming Alliance has taken a big step forward with its first major leadership hire. The group has confirmed that Peter Kesitilwe, formerly CEO of the Botswana Gambling Authority, will become its first Chief Executive Officer. The African iGaming Alliance is focused on building a well-regulated and responsible online betting and gaming industry across the continent, making “African iGaming Alliance” central to its future plans.
The Alliance was created by betPawa, Betway, 888Africa and Sportybet. It was set up to promote consumer protection, fair competition and a sustainable regulatory landscape. Its scope also includes pushing for tax frameworks that balance growth and responsibility.
Kesitilwe said he is honoured by the appointment. He stressed the importance of working with regulators and policymakers to build a sustainable and competitive industry. His focus is on upholding high standards of responsible gambling and player protection.
Anthony Prissman of Betway Africa welcomed the decision. He pointed to Kesitilwe’s regulatory background as giving the African iGaming Alliance strong credibility. Prissman said the group looks forward to working with him to shape a responsible sector.
Dan Thomson from betPawa added that Kesitilwe’s appointment shows the strength of the Alliance. He said the AIA’s mission is to help develop a well-regulated betting and gaming market across Africa. His statement underlined the group’s collective goals.
Jai Mahtani of Sportybet noted the Alliance’s creation was aimed at balanced regulation. He said it also wants to raise standards around responsible gambling. Mahtani described Kesitilwe’s leadership as the beginning of that journey.
Christopher Coyne of 888Africa commented on the recruitment process. He said Kesitilwe’s vision for iGaming in Africa stood out from other candidates. Coyne explained the Alliance now looks forward to engaging with stakeholders under his leadership.
The African iGaming Alliance plans to act as the voice of the industry. Its role will be to connect operators, regulators and governments across the continent. It wants to create a transparent, responsible and commercially sustainable iGaming sector.
