Alberta has published its first regulated online gambling market report. The Alberta iGaming market shows rising revenue and player activity. More operators have also entered the market.

  • Revenue reaches CAD 56.6m: Non-Adjusted Gross Gaming Revenue (NAGGR) rose from CAD 22.2m (ca. EUR 13.7m) in July 2026 to CAD 43.3m (ca. EUR 26.8m) in August 2026 and CAD 56.6m (ca. EUR 35.0m) in September 2026.  July 2026 covered only part of the month. More operators joined during this period. NAGGR means the aggregate amount of wagers less the aggregate amount of winnings.
  • Casino takes 75.6% share: Casino games generated 75.6% of September 2026 revenue in the Alberta iGaming market. Sports and event betting accounted for 19.5%, followed by live casino at 4.9%. Casino was the largest revenue category.
  • 388,585 active accounts: Alberta reported 388,585 active player accounts in September. Average revenue per active account was CAD 146 (ca. EUR 90). Players may hold accounts with several operators, so the figure does not represent unique individuals.
  • 24 licensed operators: The market launched with 15 operators on 13 July and reached 24 by September 2026. More operators are expected to join before the end of 2026. The figures therefore cover a market still expanding.
  • Revenue distribution: Operators retain 80% of revenue, while Alberta receives 20%. Additionally, 2% of gross gaming revenue goes to First Nations and 1% to social responsibility programmes. The Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) manages Alberta’s regulated online gambling market, while the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) oversees licensing, regulation and compliance.
  • Regulated market targets: Alberta previously estimated that 70% of online gambling took place with unregulated operators. AiGC aims to move 70% of activity to regulated sites in year one and 75% in year two. CEO Dan Keene said early results show that Albertans value “strong oversight and greater accountability.”
