Allwyn has rolled out a new initiative called the player protection lab. It’s designed to back fresh research and ideas that make gaming safer. The programme is already open, and academics along with industry experts are being invited to apply.
The player protection lab will fund projects that test out new ways of protecting players. Proposals can explore digital innovation, the use of messaging to encourage positive play, or tools that directly improve safety. By setting these three themes, Allwyn wants to focus efforts on areas where new solutions can be quickly put to use.
Grants of up to EUR 100,000 are available depending on the scale of the project. That makes this one of the larger funding opportunities currently on offer in responsible gaming. It’s open to experienced researchers as well as those bringing fresh perspectives to the field.
Nicole Garrett, Allwyn’s head of responsible gaming, explained: “The Player Protection Lab is an exciting new avenue for Allwyn. Our responsible gaming team is seeking proposals that will encourage progress in player safety and break new ground in our industry.” Her statement highlights the push to bring in ideas from outside the company.
The application process is open worldwide, giving Allwyn access to a broad range of expertise. By inviting a global pool of applicants, the company hopes to gather insights from different regions and sectors. The aim is to find innovative approaches that might not usually be linked to gaming.
This initiative comes shortly after Allwyn’s Play the Right Way campaign launched in August. That campaign used lessons from Formula 1 to promote responsible play, encouraging people to set limits, stay calm and keep the right mindset. The lab takes that message further by funding concrete research into long-term safety tools.
