The Balkan gaming sector has taken a joint step with the launch of the Balkan Gaming Federation. The move brings together several national industry bodies under one framework. The Balkan Gaming Federation aims to address shared regulatory and market issues across the region.

  • The initiative was formalised through a Memorandum of Cooperation signed in Belgrade on 27 March 2026. It marks the first coordinated regional effort of its kind in the sector. Representatives from seven Balkan jurisdictions attended the event.
  • The Balkan Gaming Federation (BGF) includes associations from Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Romania, North Macedonia (MAK GEJMING), Montenegro (GPIS) and Republika Srpska. The group was formed in response to tighter regulations and the growth of illegal gambling across the region. It aims to align industry positions and improve coordination between markets.
  • “The federation’s goals are ambitious and concrete: a decisive fight against the illegal market… and harmonisation with European standards and practices,” the statement said. The Balkan Gaming Federation will also focus on player protection and market development.
  • A follow-up meeting is scheduled for 26 May 2026 during Belgrade Future Gaming, where the federation’s structure and statutes will be discussed.
