Danes didn’t hold back on their gambling habits this May. The Danish Gambling Authority’s (Spillemyndigheden) latest report shows just how much the Danish gambling spend shot up. Online casino and gaming machines were the main drivers behind this jump in May 2025.
Danes spent more than 19% on gambling in terms of Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) in May 2025 (683 Mio. DKK) than they did a year earlier (May 2024: 571 Mio. DKK). The Danish gambling spend reached new heights, driven by digital channels. This marks one of the biggest year-on-year increases recently.
Online casino spend in May 2025 grew by around 40% (389 Mio. DKK) compared with May 2024 (278 Mio. DKK) in terms of GGR. More players are turning to digital platforms, boosting the Danish gambling spend further. This segment has clearly become the top choice for many.
Gaming machines also contributed to the upward trend with a more than 8% increase, reaching a GGR of 105 Mio. DKK in May 2025 (May 2024: 97 Mio. DKK). This shows that physical venues still attract players despite online growth. The Danish gambling spend in this category remains solid.
Land-based casinos saw no change compared with last year’s numbers in terms of GGR (May 2025: 32 Mio DKK). They maintained the same revenue level as in May 2024. Stability here contrasts with the sharp rise in online activity.
Betting took a slight hit, dropping by more than 6% from 164 Mio. DKK in May 2024 (84% interactive betting; 16% retail betting) to 154 Mio. DKK in May 2025 (87% interactive betting; 13% retail betting). This suggests bettors might be shifting focus to other gambling forms after last year’s peak.
