The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) has appointed Pierre Tournier as interim Secretary General from 1 September 2026. He replaces Maarten Haijer, who is leaving after 13 years in the role. The EGBA interim Secretary General will oversee the association’s work on Europe’s online gambling market.

• Pierre Tournier joined EGBA in November 2025 and has more than 15 years of sector experience. He previously worked in senior roles at the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) and Remote Gambling Association (RGA). His recent work at EGBA has included cooperation with trade bodies and action against illegal gambling.
• Maarten Haijer became Secretary General in 2013 after joining EGBA in 2008. During his tenure, the association worked with EU and national institutions on regulated online gambling markets. EGBA also launched its annual European Safer Gambling Week.
• Tournier said illegal gambling will be a key focus for the EGBA interim Secretary General. EGBA members hold more than 400 online gambling licences across 22 European countries and account for around 30% of European online gambling GGR.
