Ireland’s gambling watchdog is keeping busy. The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) has just inked its third international deal, this time with Gibraltar. It’s all part of a wider plan by the Ireland gambling regulator to build strong links with fellow regulators ahead of its first licensing rollout.
The agreement was signed in Dublin by GRAI CEO Anne Marie Caulfield and Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner Andrew Lynam. It sets up a clear framework for how both sides will share information and support each other on regulatory matters.
A big driver behind the move is that many gambling operators are active in both Ireland and Gibraltar. The MOU is expected to help both regulators keep tabs on operators and align their oversight.
Gibraltar’s regulator has already been lending a hand during GRAI’s setup phase. Caulfield thanked the team for being generous with their time and advice in recent months.
This is the third MOU GRAI has signed with overseas regulators as it gears up to open its licensing system. More partnerships are in the pipeline as GRAI builds out its international network.
“This Memorandum of Understanding is a significant step in formalising the working relationship between regulators in Ireland and Gibraltar,” Caulfield said. She described it as the start of a “positive and mutually beneficial” partnership.
