Bavaria’s State Secretary Sandro Kirchner has officially taken over the GGL leadership change. He now chairs the supervisory board of the Joint Gambling Authority of the Federal States (GGL), stepping in for Reiner Moser from Baden-Württemberg. Kirchner made it clear from day one: shutting down illegal gambling is at the top of his agenda.
The GGL leadership change takes place every year on July 1, rotating among Germany’s 16 states in alphabetical order. This year, Bavaria got the nod and took over the leadership role. The timing also coincides with the GGL celebrating its fourth anniversary.
Under Moser’s watch, the GGL grew into a strong and trusted authority for online gambling oversight. Moser highlighted the team’s dedication to tackling illegal operators and making sure the legal market runs smoothly. He thanked the GGL staff for their “trusting and result-oriented” teamwork over the past year.
Kirchner used the GGL leadership change to call for more cooperation across borders. He wants to make illegal gambling as unprofitable as possible in Germany. He stressed that protecting players and cracking down on illegal sites will be at the core of his work.
The GGL supervisory board brings together top officials from all 16 German states who oversee gambling regulation. It acts as the main control and strategy body for the GGL. The yearly rotation ensures that all states get a turn in leading and shaping policy.
