James Sottile is stepping down from his post as Chief Legal Officer at Light & Wonder. The long-time executive will wrap up his role by the end of 2025. Light & Wonder CLO duties will shift to Susan Dawson, who will relocate to Las Vegas for the job.
Sottile officially informed Light & Wonder of his retirement plans on 16 June 2025. His last working day as EVP, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary will be 31 December 2025. The company has named current Deputy General Counsel Susan Dawson as his successor.
Dawson joined the company in 2012 and has been Deputy General Counsel since 2018. She is currently based in the UK but will move to Las Vegas to take on the CLO and Corporate Secretary roles. Her appointment takes effect upon Sottile’s retirement.
To help with the transition, Sottile has agreed to continue supporting the company in a consulting role throughout 2026. He will provide advisory services starting 1 January 2026 and continuing through 31 December 2026.
The amendment also includes a change to how Sottile’s equity awards will be handled after retirement. Rather than previous contract terms, his awards will follow the company’s general retirement equity vesting policy.
Under the consulting agreement signed on the same day, Sottile will be paid a monthly fee of $11,959. That amount equals 20% of his 2025 base salary and applies for the full year of consulting work in 2026.
“I’m proud of the work we’ve done and confident in Susan’s leadership as she takes over this role,” said Sottile in a brief statement released by the company.
