Merkur Group has agreed to acquire White Hat Studios as it continues to expand its presence in the US market. The Merkur White Hat acquisition adds an established online games developer to the group’s growing North American business. The deal remains subject to the required regulatory approvals.
- White Hat Studios was founded in 2021 and has become one of the fastest-growing suppliers in the US iGaming market. The company was the first supplier to launch online slots in all seven regulated US states with legal online casinos. Its portfolio includes more than 150 games, the “House of Brands” collection, the “7s Fire Blitz” series and the “Jackpot Royale” progressive jackpot system.
- The Merkur White Hat acquisition follows Merkur Group’s recent purchase of Gaming Arts, the Nevada-licensed gaming equipment and games developer. Together, the acquisitions strengthen the company’s position in the regulated US gaming market. Merkur plans to expand its omni-channel offering for operator partners with both online-first and land-based content.
- White Hat Gaming’s platform and white-label businesses are not part of the transaction and will remain with their current owner. The agreement only covers White Hat Studios. Completion depends on receiving the necessary regulatory approvals.
- Andy Whitworth, CEO of White Hat Studios, said: “The combination with the Merkur Group is a major milestone for all employees and partners of White Hat Studios.” He added that working with Merkur would create new opportunities for product innovation and strengthen the company’s omni-channel offering. The Merkur White Hat acquisition is intended to support the studio’s long-term growth in the US.
- Merkur Group also highlighted the strategic importance of the transaction. CEO Lars Felderhoff said the company looks forward to continuing White Hat Studios’ growth story in the United States while expanding Merkur’s presence in the regulated iGaming market. Merkur Group does not currently operate a licensed B2C online casino or sportsbook in the United States. Its US activities focus at the moment on supplying games, gaming equipment and content to licensed operators.
