Young adults in Britain are making big moves when it comes to gambling. According to GambleAware, new data shows 18-24s are twice as likely to want to cut down or quit compared to older gamblers. The GambleAware Support Tool is stepping in to help them do just that, offering a free and anonymous way to track and manage habits. The GambleAware Support Tool is designed to make this journey easier.

  • The 2024 Treatment and Support Survey found that 29% of 18-24-year-old gamblers want to cut back or quit, much higher than the 15% average among all age groups. GambleAware responded by launching the GambleAware Support Tool app to support these younger players before harm escalates. The GambleAware Support Tool allows users to set personal goals and monitor their progress.

  • Around 4.5 million people in Great Britain want to reduce or stop gambling, and 93% prefer to do it without formal treatment. This points to a clear demand for self-guided tools like the GambleAware Support Tool. The app aims to meet people where they are and support them anonymously.

  • Since launch, 48% of 18-24s using the GambleAware Support Tool say they want to save money, while 27% want to feel happier. The app lets users track spend and frequency, making it easier to see progress. It also offers educational content and signposting to further support if needed.

  • The app was developed using the Lower Risk Gambling Guidelines (LRGG), which set clear limits to help people reduce risk. These include spending no more than 1% of income, gambling on no more than four days a month, and avoiding more than two gambling types monthly. The GambleAware Support Tool is currently the only app in Great Britain using these guidelines.

  • Users can check their activity in real time and adjust goals to suit their journey. All advice is evidence-based, and users have access to podcasts and learning materials. Catherine Adams from GambleAware’s Lived Experience Council said, “It’s positive being able to monitor your progress yourself and to see how well you’re doing in reducing or quitting your gambling if you’re goal orientated.”
