The Dutch gambling authority (Kansspelautoriteit or Ksa) has made it clear that gambling sponsorship rules will be strictly enforced at the Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix taking place at the last weekend of this month. The regulator held talks with the event’s organisers ahead of the race. This means fans won’t see any betting logos on cars, kits, or team gear in Zandvoort.
The Ksa has provided sports federations and organisers with detailed guidance on how gambling sponsorship rules apply. The regulator wants to prevent any confusion around what is allowed and what is prohibited. This clarification followed questions from several stakeholders.
In the run-up to the Dutch Grand Prix, the Ksa contacted the organisers directly. The aim was to ensure that no teams would display betting-related branding. As a result of these talks, it was confirmed that gambling operators would not be visible during the event.
The restriction applies to all teams competing in the Netherlands, including international teams. Even if an operator is licensed in their home country, they cannot display those sponsors here. Dutch law requires all participating teams to comply with the national rules.
The ban mainly targets operators without a Dutch licence. Any advertising by these companies is regarded as promoting illegal gambling. The Ksa stressed this is a clear violation of the current legislation.
Licensed operators also face strict limits. Even with a Dutch licence, it remains prohibited to advertise online gambling during sporting events. This means approved operators cannot place their logos on cars, teamwear, or other visible spots.
“We call on all parties to remain alert and contact us if in doubt,” said the Ksa. The authority underlined that enforcement action will follow if rules are ignored. This applies equally to Dutch and international organisations.
