Rank Group has announced a change at the top of its board. Chair Alex Thursby, who first joined in 2017 and took on the role in 2019, will step down after the company’s AGM on 15 October 2025. The board has outlined an interim plan while it prepares to name his successor.

  • Thursby is stepping down after more than eight years with Rank, including six years as chair. He said the timing felt right as the business enters a new phase with casino law reforms in place and its digital operations gaining momentum, adding he was proud of the progress on governance and strategy under his watch.

  • The board’s succession process is well underway, with a permanent chair expected to be confirmed within the next couple of months. Until then, Senior Independent Director Karen Whitworth will step in as interim chair, with Lucinda Charles-Jones taking over as interim senior independent director and Keith Laslop becoming interim audit committee chair.

  • CEO John O’Reilly described Thursby as a “committed and talented chair” whose leadership helped guide Rank through a period of growth. Whitworth also thanked him for his contribution, saying the board valued his experience and expects to confirm a permanent replacement shortly.
