The UK Gambling Commission has appointed Sue Young as its new Executive Director of Operations. Her appointment brings in a senior official from HMRC (His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs) with experience across several UK government bodies. She joins as the regulator continues work on enforcement and consumer protection.

  • Sue Young joins the Gambling Commission from HMRC where she served as Director of Debt Management. Earlier in her career she held senior roles at the Home Office, including Border Force. Her background also includes positions at HM Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services and the Department of Health and Social Care.

  • In her new role, Young will oversee several of the Commission’s operational functions. These teams support regulatory work aimed at keeping gambling safer, fairer and crime free. The Sue Young appointment comes as the Commission continues efforts to tackle the illegal gambling market and strengthen enforcement activity.

  • Acting Chief Executive Sarah Gardner welcomed the hire, saying the regulator has several operational priorities underway. She said: “I’m delighted to welcome Sue to the Gambling Commission. Sue brings a wealth of operational leadership experience and I’m very much looking forward to working with her.”
